![]() ![]() Marie is survived by her husband, Bernard Mitchell her three sons, Vince (Sharon) Mitchell, Tom (Diane) Mitchell, and Kevin (Kristy) Mitchell her three daughters, Donna (Roger) Apple, Mary Lee (Jeff) Stephens, and Paula (Brad) Blades 13 grandchildren, Bethany Sutton, Megan Swartz, Brody Mitchell, Aaron and Austin Apple, Whitney Hopfinger, Jayla Livingston, Heather Johnson, Kohl and Keilyn Mitchell, Emily Braden, Alison and Breanna Blades 18 great-grandchildren, Addy, Abe, Cora, Leo, Grayson, Lilly, Harrison, Tate, Holland, Emmery, Royce, Oaklyn, Creed, Kai, Lemma, Quinn, Jayde, Lane and baby Apple on the way in February as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son, Tom (Patti) Stahl, of New Harmony, Indiana her daughter, Deanna (Joe) Kovacich, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado five grandchildren: Heather (Glen) Pierce of Jasper, Indiana Levi (Stacey Shintani) Stahl of Chicago, Illinois Matthew (Jill) Stahl of Fishers, Indiana Sarah (Kovacih) Driscoll of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Benjamin Kovacich of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and four great-grandchildren: Carson Pierce of Houston Texas, Ainsley Pierce, Aubree Stahl, and Blake Stahl as well as by her sister, Mary Frances Ellison (Noble G) of Sullivan, Indiana Theresa (Obert) Viland of Yorkville two sisters-in-law, Rose Ellen (Hubert) Unfried of Haubstadt, Indiana, and Beth (Willard) Unfried of Evansville, Indiana. Until the end of her life, she was making new friends. Her love of cooking was an outgrowth of her love of family and friends Margaret loved people, those she'd known forever and those she'd just met. Margaret loved to cook, making holiday meals seem easy, which was crowned by her classic Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. She appreciated good fashion and never appeared in public less than perfectly dressed. They loved to travel, with trips to Japan and Europe being the highlights. In their home, she was surrounded by houseplants, which she enjoyed sharing as cuttings with friends and family. Margaret loved animals and even in her last days, she took joy in petting her great grand dog, Jenkins. In retirement, Margaret and Harold served as election judges and as bailiffs for countless trials at the White County Courthouse. Yukari and her family remained in touch, and even came back to visit multiple times. ![]() She and Harold served as a host family for Yukari Uno, an exchange student from Japan, in 1981. She was also part of the White County Home Culture Club, VFW Auxiliary, and ASC. Polycarp's, where she was an active member of the Ladies Guild. Patrick's, in Enfield and then, after moving to Carmi, of St. Margaret was engaged with her community in many ways throughout her life. ![]() In 1990, they sold their homestead and moved to Carmi. They made a home together in rural Enfield and began farming, which would continue to be their occupation until they retired in 1988. Their marriage lasted 74 years, until Harold's death in 2021. In 1947, she married Harold Stahl, after having faithfully stayed in touch with him via regular letters as he served in the Pacific during World War II. She attended Enfield High School, graduating in 1944. Margaret was born Septemto Lawrence Leo Unfried and Sarah Frances (Driscoll) Unfried of Enfield. Margaret (Unfried) Stahl died on November 25, 2021, at Enfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Enfield, Illinois, aged 96. ![]()
